This is Gaza. He is 15 years old and in the 9th grade. His favorite subject is math. Outside of school, he likes to play soccer, watch TV, and spend time with his friends. He would like to become a barber when he grows up. He has severe hemophilia A. He recently had a bleed in his knee that required treatment at the hospital, which is 75 miles away. When he needs a factor infusion, he goes with his mother to the Angkor Hospital for children. Gaza is blind in his right eye, which can make school difficult at times.
Gaza lives at home with his mother and younger brother. His parents are divorced and he does not have much contact with his father. His mother works as a housekeeper. The family lives off of $150 a month. They live in a tin home in a village outside of Siem Reap. Your sponsorship funds would help to pay for Gaza’s education and treatment

This is Miguel (on the right, with his brother, Daniel). He is 13 years old and in the 6thgrade. He has missed about 2 weeks of school in recent months due to bleeds, and these absences have affected his ability to do well. Miguel is very active. He loves to play football (soccer), and ride his bike. Miguel has been diagnosed with severe hemophilia A. In the past year he has had bleeds in his ankle that required treatement at the hospital. Travel to the hospital takes 2 hours by bus. It is expensive and difficult for his family. They try to purchase several applications of factor and medical supplies so they can treat Migual at home. Miguel lives with his parents and 3 brothers. Two of his brothers also suffer from hemophilia. His father works as a truck driver and makes $250 a month. The family lives in a two-room house. They have a kitchen with with water, electricity and a refrigerator. They cook their meals over a charcoal fire. Their home is in poor condition and needs repairs made to the walls.

My name is Jorge and my birthday is June 29, 2012. I am 6 years old and in the 1st grade. The school is 15 blocks from my house and I get there by bike. I am very bright and an excellent student, however, I often missed 15 days of school in a row due to bleeds. I have dreams of being a doctor when I grow up so that I can help kids in pain. I help with chores around my house when I am not at school. I have mild hemophilia A and has frequent bleeds in my knees, ankles, mouth, and gums. The hospital is an hour and half trip from my house and we must take 2 buses to get there. In addition to hemophilia, I also have asthma. I live with my parents and older sister. My dad works in a store and earns $166 a month. My family lives in a small, 2-room, house that is made of wood and has water damage. It has electricity and we do have a refrigerator. We need to get water from a spigot in the village and our toilet is outside. Our family cooks their meals on a gas burner.

Ammar is 13 years old and currently in the 8th grade, where English and art are his favorite subjects. He really loves to draw! His school is a 10 minute walk from his house. His teachers report that he am making very good progress towards his education. When he is not at school or doing his homework, he enjoys dancing and watching some television. He has been diagnosed with severe hemophilia A. He has experienced major bleeds in his hips. He receives infusions of factor at the local hospital to treat signigicant bleeds. The hospital takes 15 minutes to get to by rickshaw. At this time, all of his joints are in good condition and no additional health concerns have been identified. Ammar lives with his parents in the city of Thane, India. His father, Zakir, works as a driver. He has recently been out of work, which has put a financial strain on the family. When he is working, his father earns approximately $185 a month. His mother, Shabana, is a house wife. She has experienced night blindess since birth and recently her vision has deteriorated to the point where she struggles to see during the daytime as well. The family speaks Hindi in their home, but are also abe to read and write some in English.Ammar’s family lives in a small, one-room, apartment in the city of Thane. The montly rent is $80. Their home has electricity and indoor plumbing. Meals are cooked over a gas stove. The basic diet of the family consists of chapati, rice, vegetanle, mutton, fish, and eggs. $40 of the monthly budget is spent on food.

Meet Basil! He is 8 years old and in the 3rd grade. He is making average progress in school despite missing class due to bleeds. His favorite subject is math,and he enjoysplaying with classmates. Basil has severe hemophilia B. He travels 20kms to the hospital when he needs treatment.He lives at home with his parents, two sisters, and his grandparents. His father works to support the family and his mother is a housewife. Your sponsorship funds would help to pay for Basil’s education and nutritious food.

My name is Mifran, I am 12 years old, and in the 6th grade. My school is 12km from my home. I ride a school bus for transportation to school each day. My favorite subject is environmental studies. I would like to be a scientist when I grow up. When I am not at school or doing homework, I enjoy playing badminton and watching television.
I have been diagnosed with severe hemophilia B. My most recent bleeds have been in my elbows, knees, and ankles. I was recently hospitalized for 60 days to treat a continuous bleed in my knee. I received infusions of factor IX. As a result of these bleeds, the mobility in my elbows and knees has been impaired. I would benefit from physiotherapy. No additional health concerns have been identified at this time. The hospital is 12km from my home and is a 30-minute ride by car. I live with my parents and younger sister. My father, Kabeer Rayammarakkar, is 42 years old and works as a driving school teacher. My mother, Suniya Panikkaveettil, is 31 years old and she is a teacher at a private school. Together, they are able to earn $220 a month to help support our family. My sister, Nizwa Fathima, is 7 years old and she is a student. The Rayammarakkar family speaks Malayalam in our home. Myself and my parents can read and write in English. My family owns a two-room house in the village of Chavakkad. Our home is made out of concrete and has electricity, running water, an indoor toilet, a refrigerator, and a stove.
